Some of you might find this hard to comprehend, but if you're not privileged, it's hard to just pick up papers, read them, and give you an impressive analysis so you can consider me for a research path. I was busy working 3 jobs, and focusing on grades.
Despite 0 research experience, I think I did pretty well as an academic. Realize that not everyone has an accessible path to research as most of those giving insensitive hot takes.
