Partisans can share a commitment to pluralistic democracy and rule of law and have their fights WITHIN such a framework. When a group attacks the framework itself, they are no longer partisans, they are traitors. 2/

I don’t use the word traitors lightly. But to defend an authoritarian President is to betray the most basic ideal the United States of Americans founded upon. Our entire system of government is meant as a rejection of tyranny. 3/

In American political and legal context, tyranny has a very specific meaning: rule by a legally unconstrained strongman rather than by officials answerable to the will of those government serves, the people. 4/

Supporting Trump, even just voting Republican in today’s circumstances is not an act of partisanship. It is an endorsement of tyranny. That position falls outside the scope of polarization. 5/
