10. More broadly: science fiction was the genre that allowed the wounded soldiers weapon makers, torturers, psywar experts, etc to work out their traumas & fears: Heinlein, Smith, Tiptree, Wolfe, many more.

The really interesting Kirby story, other than the fake movie thing with Iran, was what he did in WW2. Stan served too but in PR (makes sense). Kirby's job was scouting out Nazi locations and then drawing them! An incredibly dangerous job which helped hone his art skills.
