2. Here's @DouthatNYT's argument as I see it:pic.twitter.com/xvpE4LJSyL

3. A few things get Douthat into trouble. One is phrase "redistribution of sex" which to women sounds like he wants them to fuck men they don't want to. What he really wants is predistribution of sex (i.e. a different social order).
4. The other problem is that Douthat mixes a muted prescriptive message (return to Mother Church!) with descriptive prediction (sex robots). Since Mother Church is improbable to most readers, they think he's endorsing prediction (language of "right to sex" contributes)
5. People are having trouble reading my summary of Douthat. Here it is again (in, I hope, more readable form):pic.twitter.com/pkRhtOrKQ0
6. But the real problem already starts with first premise: that "Sexual neoliberalism (Hefner modified by feminism) created unfuckable underclass (incels)." Problem here is that incels are more about status than sex.
7. You only have to read a little incel discourse (I wouldn't recommend more than a little) so see that anger is not that they don't have sex but that they are denied the high status women ("Stacys") they deserve
8. Incels are not the voice of sexual underclass but rather the voice of aggrieved privilege: men who (as men) think they naturally deserve high status which they've been denied.
9. Sex work already in societies that also produce incels. Yet on their messageboards, incels often denigrate sex workers rather than see them as a solution. Why? Because incels don't want sex: they want status of having conventionally beautiful girlfriend/wife.
10. Aside from status of having conventionally beautiful girlfriend/wife, incels also want subservience & esteem. These are not things any society can really give them. Insatiable aggrieved privilege is not something you can negotiate with.
11. This is of course the main and unanswerable objection.https://twitter.com/BeckyBunzy/status/991839067162730498 …
12. I'll leave it to experts in therapy & deradicalization to figure out if there is some way to talk them out of their position. More broadly, anti-misogyny eduction might stop some from going down that path.
