Then they are not journalists and should stop pretending to be. Want to be a stenographer? Then be a stenographer. But you can't do that and call yourself a journalist.

I think you may have accidentally misspelled 'stenographers'... it looked like 'journalists' in my twitter feed. ;)

If journalists shouldn't be the ones to call a lie a lie, what is their purpose then? What is journalism if not documenting the truth? And the truth is that our leaders are lying to us.

If a journalist hears a lie spoken or sees it written, it is that journalist's duty to call out the lie and to support the calling out with facts. In fact, that's a duty we all must take on!!

it is the same excuse given 15 years ago with Bush-Chaney and the Iraq causus belli lies, they looked the other way on war crimes, then they enabled the astroturffed Tea Party and kept the Birther nonesense alive and now write sympathy pieces for Nazis sad in Middle America.

maybe journalists should strive to be good journalists rather than celebrities. Many seem to have the two roles/jobs mixed up (saying that is giving them the benefit of the doubt)

I think it's important to differentiate between calling out something that is factually inaccurate and calling out something as a "lie". There is a difference.
-
If someone keeps making a factually inaccurate statement after being corrected, it's a lie.

@morningmika disappoints me the most here, and using her own "wife and mother" trope, she is the daughter of a man who understood the subtle viciousness of censorship in Eastern Europe and worked to undermine it.
