1. There's been a lot of talk about "democratic backsliding" in Trump era but evidence is more mixed. There's also been democratic resurgence (protests, engagement in special elections, challenges to gerrymandering & disenfranchisement).

3. The one institution that hasn't done well is congress, which hasn't fulfilled constitutional duty. But that's really GOP partisanship. Will change if Dems win either house in midterms.

Opposition party? not so much. Haven't obstructed blatantly corrupt choices like Carson and it took nearly every anti-trump voter in america to get a party-line split on DeVos.
