Kevin Williamson: I'm being censored. Naive onlooker: That's terrible. [KW publishes in Commentary and WSJ] KW: I'm being censored. NO: Yes, I heard you the first time. [KW publishes in Weekly Standard & Washington Post] KW: I'm being censored. NO: Shut up already.

Joking aside, I remain baffled by Williamson's position. He says abortion is an "an absolute evil" & "in some ways it's worse than your typical murder" but will accept laws that will allow 90% of abortions to continuehttps://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/kevin-williamson-the-punishment-i-favor-for-abortion/2018/04/25/5001c6cc-48c5-11e8-8b5a-3b1697adcc2a_story.html?utm_term=.00573bc6465f …

I mean if abortion is "an absolute evil" and "worse than your typical murder" why all the federalist foofaraw about New Jersey & Utah having different laws. They do for murder to some extent, but they both punish it severely.

If abortion is murder, why tolerate, out of political expediency, 90% of abortions. And as you move to restrict, why allow some states to have strong ban and others to be lax. That makes no sense.

And Williamson continues to drop the suggestion that he wants to punish women who have abortion but doesn't want to spell out what they would be. That's very strange.pic.twitter.com/ARZgrg7JsE

Williamson is willing to accept large numbers of abortion for foreseeable future, because total ban is "50- or even 100-year project." In other words, he's pro-life after we are all dead. But thinks abortion is worse than regular murder. That's not a coherent position.

he would argue that calling for a coherent position is a form of censorship.

I haven't read his stuff, but is he saying, "I'll accept banning 10% of abortions now because that's all I can get at the moment, but I want 100% banned in the future and will work towards that." That's consistent and acceptable (under his beliefs), but I haven't read his stuff.

The problem is you can't reconcile that with the whole "it's murder" thing. Society doesn't go halfsies on murder.

I loathe KW and his views, but it does seem coherent to take into account the challenge inherent in shifting public opinion to the point at which everyone sees abortion as a heinous form of murder.

I am angry. It is legal. It is supported by the majority. Everywhere the right is infringed on and whittled down by people with fringe ideas. Generating controversy sells papers. But contoversy does not mean the idea is worthy. A loud voice is not a worthy voice.

Because ending abortion or "saving lives" isn't the goal. The goal is to punish women for having sex.

Many fetuses are aborted - or children are murdered, every year. He would welcome a means to save even 10%. That’s entirely coherent.
