I don’t think the Atlantic should have fired him but his reaction to the initial outcry and everything he’s doing now, it’s difficult for me to not reach the conclusion that he intended for things to unfold this way to try and prove a point.

Also, he could have shopped the long essay explaining his views on abortion to the Weekly Standard or any number of other right wing rags who I'm sure would be happy to publish it (for free!), but he'd rather write another whiny complaint about how liberals are being mean to him.
