this is nonsense. Northam is a centrist waffler who was widely pilloried before the election for being a centrist waffler. He won because Trump is massively unpopular, not because he ran an especially good campaign.https://twitter.com/HeerJeet/status/988250230234595328 …

all losing campaigns look poorly run; all winning ones look like genius. I think the difference here was environment, not candidate choices. (the fact that Northam wasn't the only dem winning that day suggests this is the case, yes?)
-
An obvious counter to that statement is that most Dem candidates in Virginia were responding to the national environment on policy. Jeet's statement could be true and yet there need not be any marginal advantage for Northam over the rest of the party's candidates.

Clinton's campaign focused on issues to a borderline tedious extent. Unfortunately the media and a lot of voters ignored what she said about them in favour of focusing on personalities. tl;dr: do not ignore the effect that differing environments had on the differing outcomes.
-
So it was the *media* and *voters* who were focused on personality? Whereas HRC was (too) focused on substance? But, but, Jeet says her campaign was personality-based. Of course, it's irrelevant. Pundits need to make her wrong, no matter what.

HRC won Virginia. Gillespie's racist anti-immigrant and pro-confederate message got a lot of attention. Also, some leftists were gleeful when polls tightened up at the end and were ( along with MSM) saying how Northam's focus on Trump is the reason he might lose.

This is unfair. As we are currently seeing, the critique of Trump's racism and temperament as *dangers to the country,* as important issues of concern in a president, and not mere "personality" quirks, turned out to be correct.
-
right? "He's going to try to hurt you if you're not a white male" is an important and even vital message, which was also true!

All she fucking talked about was jobs and economic issues. She won on the economy 52-41. Sad, bro. A bad look for ya.
