3. Nixon's move was bold, but it also grounded in reality (recognizing China was always right thing to do) & strategic vision (using China & Russia to balance each other). Trump's move is much more impulsive.

Nixon was aware of the history of Benjamin Disraeli, who as leader of the British Conservatives opposed Liberal gov't (e.g. expansion of the vote), but when he became Prime Minister adopted much of the Liberal program, something he could do without anyone questioning his motives.
