1. Unlike many of Trump's worries I was never afraid of him being too pro-Putin. What I worried about was under Trump USA would send mixed messages to Russia/Putin. Today's bombing makes me more afraid than ever.

4. I've long thought the mixed messaging was dangerous and could blunder us into war. Putin/Russia has no clear sense of what USA's boundaries are, so could overstep (and vice versa!).

5. So I think we're in a very dangerous situation since Syria is one obvious tinderbox where US/Russia escalation could go badly wrong (especially since Tillerson gutted state dept.).

6. The good news (relatively speaking) is that Mattis seems aware of the dangers of escalation and is trying to keep the bombing restrained. Let's hope he can keep that up.

To clarify, you're still talking about tonight's strikes? Which you think were "push back against Russia" through "military displays & proxy wars"? The pinprick strikes on three CW-related Assad regime sites in response to the regime's use of CW? This is why you're scared?
