Well, her claim is that Williamson's opinions *aren't* shared by pluralities/majorities of Americans but that they are marginal. To test that we'd need to look @ polling. On abortion, the absolute pro-life position is held by about 18%. I bet % supporting death is much smaller.

I agree w Jeet, & said as much in a column re the tweet back in 2014: The reason this is getting attention is that the extreme position follows fr the principle underlying it. So the walk-back seems like a prudential response: we can't get away w it, but in an ideal world...

And then that raises the issue: So The Atlantic just hired a guy who sincerely thinks that in an ideal world women would be prosecuted as murderers for having abortions. Which sounds like he treats Handmaid's Tale as an appealing utopia.
