9. I think there's good reason for newspapers to hire right-of-center reporters. The good news is National Review has been good at training reporters that get hired elsewhere: Betsy Woodruff, Tim Alberta, Robert Costa.

10. I think the value of writers like Woodruff is they have connections with GOP that facilitate reporting on the right & they are also good reporters. That's what we need more of.

I think this is an error. Opinion pages reflect editorial and ownership values and priorities--not necessarily in opinion, but in "what is a valid approach to discussion." This leaks over into reporting.

I think if they can't find someone who doesn't advocate for murdering people who partake in a legal procedure he disagrees with, then the problem lies elsewhere. There are plenty of fine conservative writers, as you mentioned - the Atlantic hired a shock jock.

opinion pages are an anachronism imo. When they provide no quality control or factchecking like NYT then they are useless as a concept. I can get unvetted BS online very easily.
