So Alias Grace just became available on Netflix Canada. It's been available on Netflix elsewhere in the world for 6 months. Why did we get it last? Because we helped pay for it. It's a CBC co-production. Make sense? Not really.

It ran on CBC didn't it?

Lots of Canadians don't have TVs or care to use CBC's terrible website. There's no great injustice here, I understand. But I think if CBC's efforts to "modernize" and partner with Netflix make their content LESS accessible to the Canadians who pay for it, something is wrong.

More Canadians have TVs than have Netflix, no?

It's weird for co-producers to get the first window?

By a wide margin. And lots manage to subsist on CBC's website and app rations, like peasants in pre-revolutionary France I guess

It also didn't launch on Netflix internationally until after all 6 parts had already aired first on the CBC.

Why not put it everywhere? We paid for it. CBC mandate is to make content available to Canadians through most efficient means available. Distribution should be about ubiquity, not exclusivity.

It's standard. Happens with BBC shows too. They run the season THEN it's on Netflix. Same thing with River (BBC) last fall.
