1. "Qualified lesbian." Ha, ha. But the odd part of the phrase is "qualified." Democratic elites have a funny ideas about what qualification means as politics.https://nypost.com/2018/03/20/christine-quinn-bashes-unqualified-lesbian-cynthia-nixon/ …

4. Obviously it's not a good idea to elect a complete dumbass to political office (see Trump, passim). But Trump got nearly 63 million votes because even though completely unfit his voters thought he shared their values.

Jon Stewart for one, still a wide streak of that Nelson Rockefeller managerial liberalism in elite circles

Even with Stewart: he did actually endorse Bernie in the primary and often made moral arguments about politics

I do. Why should politics be different from any other profession? I don’t see It so much as paying dues as It is gaining experience, learning how government works, becoming good at the job. Trump is just the most extreme example of incompetence.

With respect, I think this should be viewed as "public service" rather than narrowly "politics". Yup, anyone can spout opinions in a political way. But are they competent to run a sizeable organization and deliver coherent policy and to implement those policies? We have to ask.

It's a job and the people you hire should be good at it. We'd all be better off if people stopped thinking of presidential politics as though they're electing a messiah every 4 years.

Anyone who wants a competent president?

Do you care more about "qualifications" in a politician than you do about values?
