3. Reagan took a different task. Interestingly, prior to Watergate, Reagan had been quite critical of Nixon (for going to China & other liberal measures). But once Nixon was emerged as lawless president, Reagan loved him.

Incorrect re Baker. His question was intended to *shield* Nixon. Baker only went over when it was clear that Nixon was in a very weak position.

This is correct. Baker has been well-served by history when in fact his legacy is not quite so pristine.
