People running it were designing for techno geeks, no feel for how to present the value proposition to other humans, was my impression. Of course it's their choice what to volunteer on. Iirc didn't one of the founders die under suspicious circumstances?

Wikipedia is sort of an amazing island of relative success on the internet, isn't it? I know it has its flaws but it sure seems to have avoided becoming an utterly toxic Nazi forum.

History of Danzig/Gdansk controversy and various nationalist fights over page contents are instructive here. It isn't that these issues don't show up on Wikipedia. They just haven't ruined the place.

There are *many* alternatives to Facebook to do that sort of thing. People keep using Facebook; everyone says they hate it, but their say otherwise.
