You snark, but part of the reason I think the term "classical liberal" is having a comeback is that some of these things seem that seemed to have been settled are subject of renewed political dispute.

It's not hard these days to find people who identify the moment things went wrong as the American or French Revolution. Which means if one disagrees they must defend those. And if you see that as a fundamental defining aspect of your politics, you might label yourself accordingly
