1. I think this is accurate but way I'd frame it is that earlier uncritical & shallow celebrations of Trudeau have been supplemented by shallow attacks on Trudeau.https://twitter.com/stphnmaher/status/967446522920161280 …

3. Washington Post column accepts the Modi governments framing (India/Canada dispute is about terrorism) & covers up the reality (dispute is about Modi's terrible human rights record).

4. No Canadian government supports terrorism in India. But the Canadian government (and many ordinary Canadians) are critical of Modi's human rights record. For good reason.https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/global-opinions/wp/2017/06/28/as-indias-muslims-are-killed-modi-keeps-silent/?utm_term=.ca1940ed941a …

5. I understand why Modi wants to tar all criticism of his government as the work of terrorist sympathizers. What is dismaying is how much of the press (in Canada & elsewhere) goes along with this deception.

That isn't a column. It's an op-ed piece from a rightwingnut. You confuse everything from WaPo as being sanctified by the god of impartiality?

I should take that back a shade. Burka Dutt might be understandably angry at the Indian gov't but there's no need to attack Trudeau in such a superficial way to try and achieve her point.

Read the first paragraph. Barka Dutt is attacking Trudeau for visiting India as if his visit is supporting the current gov't. Trudeau went to get trade deals, not prop up Modi. So, Barka Dutt is upset Trudeau didn't single-handedly make Modi resign or something?
