I would also stress that Moon's diplomacy-which involved basically engineering the detente-is directed at Washington as much as Pyongyang. He's doing everything in his power to push the US in a more diplomatic direction and take talk of a military option off the table.

question: how *should* the U.S. respond to NoKorean attempts at soft diplomacy (as self-serving and ham-fisted as they may be)? With scorn? Or should we be rewarding them when they choose to use diplomatic vs. militaristic tactics? 2/

Many Americans are unaware that the US, especially under Trump and Pence is not viewed from outside as the beacon of democracy but just another asshole nation - not nearly as bad as NK, but not loved or respected. And Pence played right into that perception.
