4. Still, if the public schools system is to be criticized it should be from someone invested in the system, unlike @jonkay, who went to an anglo private school in Quebec & is now sending his kids to a private school.

5. One of the implicit assumptions here is private school education doesn't engage in propaganda or social engineering -- which is kind of absurd if you think about it for one minute: https://twitter.com/jonkay/status/961664599626981376 …

6. I mean Kay's own education was at an private anglo all-boys school in Quebec where he managed not to learn French despite living in a French speaking society. That's several layers of social engineering right there.

curious. what's your quibble with the idea of a just society?

No quibble. But it would be better to debate the utility of including this in the curriculum knowing something has to come out rather than attacking someone's personal choices about education for their children

Replying to @NavTangri @jonkay
I try to teach my daughters to treat other people with respect whatever their background. I'm glad to have schools that back up this message.

it's almost as if the question of how we live together is important and the answer is learned through work and interpersonal engagement

It is important, but bringing up and attacking someone's background, the wealth they grew up and where they send their children to make your point is petty...and misses the mark

First, the man initiates the conversation about his family's largesse, so it seems odd to attack Jeet for it, but also, this is responsive to a common upper class belief that public education is substandard. Jeet is simply pointing out that many of us got great public educations.

Exactly. In fact, rich people often seem to have a hostility to the very idea of public services (listen to Elon Musk talk about public transit). I don't think that's accidental or unconnected to background.
