2. People misunderstand Trump's communication strategy. He has no interest in winning ideological debates in the manner of Reagan or Obama. His goal is to keep his fan base loyal, in manner of an entertainer.

He seemed to be committed to the prompter last night and he sounded halfway sane until he started going down the MS-13 hole. The prompter makes him more palatable to most Americans. Freelancing resonates more with his base.

Some uncomfortable insights there. Reminds me of BBC doco from 1989 in which an advisor to Mrs Thatcher analysing Hitler's speeches was clearly impressed by how he operated. Very uncomfortable to see manipulation at work
