Advice to lit crits: there's a great book to be written about the literary & personal dialogue of 1960s feminist science fiction writers: Le Guin, Tiptree, Russ & (odd gay man out) Delany.

As last RT notes there's been work on this. But I still think there is room for focused work on 1960s/1970s cohort, written in manner of Menand's The Metaphysical Club.

Read The Dispossessed in H.S. (~1980). It's themes and narrative structure have had a big influence on my thinking. Hadn't heard of Triton. Thanks for the tip. Left Hand of Darkness it also incredible and it's themes seem both more and less important than they did in the '70s.

Delany pointed out [citation needed] that the early cyberpunks claimed they were influenced by him, but he believes they were influenced by the 70s feminists who were influenced by him. +>

E.g., "Time Considered as Helix of Semi-Precious Stones" is a clear precursor of cyberpunk, but Molly Millions is a straight-up Joanna Russ character.
