My theory last year is that Republicans mistake the actor for his role. Reagan, Schwarzenegger, Eastwood even. Trump definitely so. He looks good at being a billionaire even if he sucked.

Which I think ties in with your whole "postmodern president" article. They court the image above the actual aptitude. Democrats in comparison prefer to keep celebrities as cheerleaders more than as politicians.
