1. Some estimable analysts (@JacobHeilbrunn, @AaronBlake) who think Mitt Romney, if elected Utah Senator, could lead GOP opposition to Trump. Wrong!

He wanted to be Secretary of State. I think this photo actually makes Romney being tough on Trump more, not less, likely.

I expect Romney to be like Sasse or Corker, but realistically, it would be hard for anyone to be worse than UT's current senators.

But, this burn may have been last straw for him. (?) And if he runs against Trump and wins, no need to drink the Kool aide of Trumpism to stay alive.

I think you're unfair to Romney here. He opposed Trump consistently in the election, unlike most. After, he was open to serving, which is not unreasonable. He was asked what he then thought of Trump and he responded w/ very faint praise ("he did something I didn't, he won" 1/2

This stood in contrast to others, like Petraeus, Tillerson, and others, who praised Trump personally after meeting him for an interview. That's craven. Romney never did that. And you can hardly blame him for Trump setting him up for a photo. 2/2

Romney may occasionally say the right thing but let’s not forget how his ambition can make Mitt dance like one of his dressage horses.
