I take your point, but it rests on the notion that the ivory tower is still the ivory tower, and I don't think it is. Campus ideas spread much more rapidly through society now. There's also the little matter of what the elites of tomorrow are now being taught. That counts.

Not the Frankfurt school. That was a relatively coherent school of thought. Haidt is crying about his perception of college campuses as run amok with leftist political correctness. I've not seen evidence of this in my years on university campuses. Even his premise is shite.
