Seems to me that your analysis fails to take adequate account of the distortions caused by Hillary Clinton being the candidate. Sadly, she has been tarred by GOP attacks for so long she simply could not attract sufficient moderate Republicans and independents.

A progressive open to dialogue with centrists, who lacks the baggage of either a Clinton or a Sanders, should do well in suburbs – especially after the implications of this tax bill hit home.
