Contra @nberlat and @miazmerrill, @EminaMelonic thinks taking down Balthus at Met would be censorship.https://www.splicetoday.com/pop-culture/censorship-as-false-morality#.Wi_qNMi9FCk.twitter …

Interesting...polyphonic. Yes, as I wrote: a line b/eroticism & pornography.
-
the eroticism/pornography line is untenable. Again, it's circular. Things that are supposed to have aesthetic value are called "erotica", things that aren't are denigrated as "porn." (Plenty of things called porn have aesthetic value.)

He's polyphonic because we've decided we should look at him. It's a circular argument. "This has aesthetic value because it has aesthetic value." Should we hang Little Nemo pages in an art gallery with no discussion of the Imp?
-
What happened to letting people think and judge for themselves?

Or what if the Balthus was proved to be a fake. Would it be less polyphonic? Have less aesthetic value? Would taking it down be censorship?
-
I personally wouldn't care if painting was "fake" because I'm interested in painting as art, not investment.
