As for crushing independent unions, isn't that what Soviet Union etc. did? Not anti-capitalist eh? Empowered big business? Sure the ones that were favorable to the regime. Also happened in Chavez Venezuela, didn't stop left intelligentsia from fawning over his anti-capitalism.
