4. One big reason not to profile Nazis: self-professed Nazis are few in number. Broader American racism markets itself as implicit common sense, not Hitler-love.

5. Only reason to worry about small # of Nazis is powerful figures (Mercers, Cannon) trying to mainstream them & Trump wary of criticizing them.

6. The real news remains that USA president sees Nazis as part of his coalition. Profiling Seinfeld-loving Joe Dipshit of Ohio doesn't illuminate that.

This is the essential message it took decades of persistent work to get through here in Germany- and which has been patiently eroded for decades more. Don't let the same happen in the US.

First they want people to sympathize with them. Then they want people to join them. Next they want to push people unlike them to a lower level or eliminate them The nazi playbook is pretty f/ing basic. Foresight regarding the plays is pretty common among non haters.

a prof way back in 2007 said, in reference to making a 9/11 dramatic film, that the results of the tragedy were tragic, but the story was really about how the hijackers became hijackers. But the story of how a nazi becomes a nazi? Maudlin.
