I'm supposed to be reading a harrowing tale of racism but what I end up reading is a bootstrapocratic class traitor: https://beta.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/hadiya-roderique-black-on-bay-street/article36823806/?ref=http://www.theglobeandmail.com&utm_medium=Referrer:+Social+Network+/+Media&utm_campaign=Shared+Web+Article+Links …

"My dad didn't buy a new winter coat for five years, but we had a piano & listened to Coltrane. My dad knew what to do. Many parents don't."

As a kid I used to live in an upstairs apartment. You couldn't have found a deliveryman with enough temerity to move a pianoforte up there.

Major difference between a made-up tradition and a genuine one. It's as if I gave my kids Irish names because I had a few Irish ancestors.

Yeah, African-American culture is made up and French Canadian culture is genuine. Good luck with that.

In Coates' name, his parents are named William Paul and Cheryl Lynn. Why did they want to revert to a non-English-sounding given name?
