George Packer's response was seriously flawed and much (maybe most) of the criticism it received.

Honest question: you think much of the criticism of Packer was flawed?

I'm sure there were people who went too far -- that always happens in a controversy -- but I didn't like Packer's piece at all.

Sure, but that doesn't contradict key point about identity epistemology. It being wrong does not imply that its targets are all right.

Point about identity epistemology is maybe okay in the abstract but doesn't really apply to TNC's work (as opposed to online debates).

Lol. The "maybe" in this sentence is what I'm talking about. Getting lefties to say IE has flaws is like pulling teeth sometimes!

I put in the "maybe" because I feel like an irrelevant critique in a review of a book is not a good idea. Should engage with book!

I think you do see flaws in IE, which I appreciate. But perhaps you think they are less important than I do.

I think it's key to have sense of proportion about what's important in the world. "Dumb things undergraduates believe" isn't that important

I wish all the people who talk this way online and in academia were undergrads. For some it may start there, but doesn't seem to end there.

It's annoying but it's not on the list of the top 50 or even 100 things I worry most about.

I don't know, I think it can be pretty destructive to political organizing
