Yeah, the Democratic party that gave us NATO and the Vietnam was was insufficiently anti-communist. Makes sense to me.

I'm sure you're aware of more than a few times when Democrats were friendly toward Communists who served their interests.

In foreign policy, yes. But Republicans were never fans of domestic Communists, for the obvious reason that the CP aligned itself with Dems.
