I found the prose parts of Jaka's Story (and all of Sim's prose sections) to be unreadable.

Fair point re the older Jaka flashbacks, but differ on the younger Jaka'a and Pud's internal monologue. The intro essay is shit tho.

The prose bits are small and the comics parts are excellent. Amazing economy of expression. Gerhard's lettering just explodes too.

The end of book 2 is still chilling, and without spilling too many beans, Thatcher's appearance as well. I'd put JS level with HS.

It was very disturbing to watch Sim descend into misogyny after it (there are some indications in JS but minor).

I was reading the comic monthly at the time and it was a gradual "holy shit, what the fuck is happening here?" I bailed around "form & void"

Ivàn, small point, but I believe Gerhard did backgrounds, not lettering. In fact, I think Sim won an Eisner for his lettering.

And, BTW, thank you for Concrete. Fanboy-fulfillment Twitter is best Twitter.

Yep, Sim did the lettering (and is in fact one of the great letterers in the history of comics).
