100% correct. Staff members may participate in the intellectual life, but that doesn’t mean it’s what they are hired for.
I don't think this is a question best viewed from the perspective of the employer class.
Folks such as @Lollardfish and @HeerJeet desperately want to catch FIRE in some sort of lie, but are unable to do so.
