The funny thing about the Comics Code is that it's much more a story about publisher rapaciousness than it is about governmental censorship.

Yes, that is why it's more about publisher rapaciousness; it is only about govt censorship to the point that it was alleged to forestall it.

Right -- the Senate hearings and alleged threat of gov't censorship gave DC/Archie pretext for setting up cartel.
