Worth noting that although ostensibly pro-free-speech, Blatchford's column is actual anti-free speech of Natives. She wants them to STFU.
Blatchford says she's not against criticism of journalists, only criticism that leads to "systemic reform." Really!pic.twitter.com/LrgbL0RFBJ
Blatchford's position: you shouldn't criticize journalists if that leads to actual change in journalistic practice. That's anti-free speech
You might say "that's just Blatchford" but she's a star columnist of biggest newspaper chain in Canada. She's mainstream.
Worth contrasting really thoughtful writing on cultural appropriation controversy (@jessewente, Alexis, @rjjago, @Scaachi) with this drivel
Worst & stupidest writing have come from senior & powerful people (@KenWhyte3, @blatchkiki, @jonkay). Best from people without staff jobs
But you have been, it's fair to say, a powerful figure in Canadian media.
Never had profile as a writer as high as yours
Editors are more powerful than writers! In any case, your fine Hearst book got deservedly good notice in the New Yorker.
What? That was my worst review. Still hurts. I would say editors and writers are differently situated
Oh, I'm misremembering! I saw a rave review in a very prominent place -- I thought it was the New Yorker.
