In fairness to @DouthatNYT, he's making a good point that the status quo in Europe is unacceptable, and there needs to be an alternative.

If elites aren't willing to offer a decent alternative, then countries eventually will end up with someone like Le Pen getting elected.

I'm referring to the way the EU and the euro are being managed. There's unnecessary unemployment. Lots of great things about Europe though.
