Castro's recklessness during the missile crisis (along with Khrushchev's & Kennedy's) nearly destroyed the world. Worth thinking about.

Castro was a nationalist (specifically an anti-American nationalist) first & a socialist second (almost as a byproduct).

I don't think this is correct at all. It's obviously the case that he didn't BEGIN as a Communist but he most certainly became one

My understanding is he became radicalized because of American opposition. The anti-Americanism & communism fed into each other.
