2. One of my completely indefensible opinions is that the 1970s were the true golden age of television, especially the sitcoms.

4. I mean 1970s were period of All in the Family, MASH, Taxi, Mary Tylor Moore show, Good Times, Jeffersons. Sitcoms at a high level.

5. In context of 1970s comedies (which tended to be gritty & working class like All in the Family) Garry Marshall's shows were throwbacks.

6. 1960s sitcoms tended towards surrealism (think Gilligan's Island or Bewitched) & Marshall's shows did too (think of Mork & Mindy)

7. I kind of see Marshall as fusing 1960s surrealism with 1970s grittiness -- the spectrum from Mork & Mindy to Laverne & Shirley.

8. Of all of Marshall's shows, I'd say the best was Mork & Mindy, which really allowed Robin Williams's special talent to flourish.
