Counterpoint: Universities should be more willing to teach books in translation. (Although learning languages good in itself).
They do. But stuff written in Arabic or Classical Tibetan isn’t “English literature”
Hm. Maybe it's different now but when I was undergrad (1980s) University of Toronto very adverse to literature in translation
But, yeah, of course English course have to focus on works in English, although even then some translation useful.
