      3. The key thing about that base is that it is polarized: those who love Trump won't abandon him but he alienates those outside of core.

      5. Sentiments echos something Doug Ford said in 2010: my brother could shoot someone in doorstep of City Hall & still win election

      6. Ford won Toronto mayoralty in 2010 with 47% of vote (3-person race) but with wider demographic reach than Trump has among minorities.

      7. But 2010 election less pertinent than what happened after: Minimum of 30% of electorate stood with Ford no matter what.

      8. The video showing him smoking crack, the ties to gangsters, the many racist & sexist comments. Didn't matter to core 30% of Fordites.

      9. And in 2014 election, Doug Ford (Rob's brother & alter ego) won 33.7% of vote (coming in 2nd in 3-person race).

      10. The lesson to draw from Ford fiasco is that there is a core Trump vote that will stand with him no matter what (i.e. shooting people)

11 That core Trump vote is, as I sad, 35-40% of GOP. How big in general electorate? Maybe 20-25%? Maybe more?

      12. For me, one lesson from Ford is that there is part of electorate that is just not persuadable. Fortunately it's not the majority.

      13. You couldn't diminish that core Ford vote, only contain it (which is why John Tory won as anybody-but-Ford umbrella candidate).

          14. So lesson from Ford is: don't try to persuade Trumpkins, contain them and build coalition around them.

15 Problem for GOP is Trumpkins are so large a part of party they can't be contained. Trump's ceiling could be north of 50%.

@HeerJeet Are you familiar with 2005 piece by John Rogers, "The Crazification Factor"? Very similar (and funny) http://kfmonkey.blogspot.com/2005/10/lunch-discussions-145-crazification.html …

@HeerJeet It made perfect sense for the other GOPers to ignore DT & only attack each other. They just failed to knock each other out.
