1. For the longest time I avoided Kubrick's adaptation of "Lolita" fearing it would be a travesty of the novel. I was both right and wrong.

2. While of course only a pale shadow of the novel, Kubrick's Lolita is in fact a good movie, surprisingly indebted to 1930s pratfall comedy
