Someone please explain why RAGTIME got a Nebula nomination: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nebula_Award_for_Best_Novel … I like the book. But I don't see anything sf about it.

@notjessewalker Alternative history, no? (Most of the historical stuff didn't happen).1 reply 1 retweet 0 likes -

@notjessewalker@HeerJeet Alt history is typically nominated for sff awards even if there's no fantastic element.1 reply 1 retweet 0 likes -

@TheAlexKnapp@HeerJeet I think of alt-history as a history that diverges from ours at some point, not one that merely mixes fact & fiction.1 reply 1 retweet 0 likes -

@notjessewalker@HeerJeet I agree with you but the Nebulas tend to nominate more literary stuff, esp from sff-inclined lit authors.1 reply 1 retweet 0 likes -

@TheAlexKnapp@HeerJeet I'm pleased when a Pynchon, a Chabon, or a Calvino gets nominated. This one just seems a stretch too far.1 reply 1 retweet 1 like
@notjessewalker @TheAlexKnapp Yeah, Pynchon should've won for Gravity's Rainbow. Ragtime does seem a stretch.
