What's worth thinking about is that the Superhero genre has always had a strong tendency towards satire, parody and pure dada.

Superman premiered in 1938 and almost immediately there were not just knock-offs but satires: original Red Tornado, Plastic Man, etc.

Superman creators Shuster and Siegel themselves did a parody of their creation, Funny-Man. So self-parody is intrinsic to genre.

@DougSaunders @huffakingit Yeah, that sort of self-parody seems part of process of artform becoming conscious of itself, defining itself.
