38. What are the structures & systems that allow abusive men to thrive and not get challenged (or, if they need it, treatment)?

39. To talk about structures & systems is not to excuse Champion, but to try to see his abusiveness as part of larger patterns.

40. But it is a problem that Champion (and other abusive men) use claim of mental illness to deflect their responsibility for abuse.

42. "One can be mentally ill and not a woman-hater." Yes. Which is why mental health framework isn't exculpatory of misogyny.

@HeerJeet Difficulty I see here is that the term "mental health" is extremely poorly defined.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@HeerJeet It's in fact tautological -- "he did something bad, therefore he has MH issues, which are identified by having done something bad"1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
@fortyfs Fair point, although I think diagnosis of MH problems based not on badness of acts but incoherence of his writing.

@HeerJeet Most ppl struggling with MH problems don't act out aggressively -- far more common to harm oneself, or to withdraw.0 replies 0 retweets 0 likes
