1. Just reading books 1-3 of Paradise Lost and have to agree with Blake that Satan is the real hero of the book.

@HeerJeet Book II of PL is GOAT. That deliberation has touches of Chaucerian comedy to it.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@HeerJeet In fairness, is there really a point to God soliciting competing views? Like "oh, good point, I hadn't thought of that Gabriel..." -
@normative Sure, but that means Heaven is a monologue whereas Hell is drama. Which means Hell more attractive & democratic.

@HeerJeet What do you make of Chaos, the realm that Satan navigates between Heaven and Earth? I can still recite passages from that part. -
@kristoncapps Tremendous section. Interesting in the suggestion that Chaos is primordial, pre-created and a force in its own right. - Show replies

4. Shorter Paradise Lost: Jesus: "God, you are so great!" God: "Jesus, you are so great." Angels: "You are both great!"

5. "better to reign in hell than serve in heaven" -- surely any freedom loving person has to agree?

@HeerJeet Isn't that the reason for the rebellion? "The mind ... can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven" Satan was already in Hell.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

@HeerJeet This is a tough book to read in the modern context because it's absolutely steeped in philosophic ideas about God as a unity. -
@TheAlexKnapp Sure, but in making God a unity Milton also makes him unappealing. - Show replies
