2. I'm not going to do an obit for everyone who studied under Leo Strauss but did want to say a few words about Rosen, an odd man out.

3. Among the many doctoral students Strauss had, Rosen must have been unique (or nearly so) in becoming his own thinker & not a clone.

7. When I interviewed Rosen in 2003 he had a fine, spirited contempt for most of Leo Strauss's students & more so for 2nd & 3rd generation.

11. Rosen said the Straussian enterprise suffered from the same problem as Napoleon's empire: inability to train enough officers.

12. Napoleon was a genius, but his generals were less than him, colonels even less, lieutenants even less. Same with Strauss & followers.
