I'm beginning to think Susan Sontag got it backwards about her marriage to Philip Rieff. He was Dorothea, she was Casaubon.
@CoreyRobin Dunno. I've only read a few essays by P. Rieff but he seemed (in print) completely insufferable.

@CoreyRobin Ok, the Casaubon label was unfair/inaccurate. But I recall a Salmagundi piece by Rieff that was snidely homophobic.
