@HeerJeet Agreed (w some caveats). LoTR is elegiac: Tolkien is mourning the loss of enchantment as much as he's trying to reenchant. -
@HeerJeet Also, I think much contemporary "lit fic" has the same mission: to suffuse the world with meaning, to have metaphor trump physics.

@HeerJeet But not so sure about sf. Hard sf may encourage wonder, but it's less prone to magical thinking than plenty of non-sf fiction. -
